Gwerfyl Roberts hails from Montgomeryshire but has long since settled in Arfon. She dedicated years of service to developing Nursing education through the medium of Welsh and bilingually. She has been a pioneer in this area throughout her career and has now ensured that a significant number of students graduating from Bangor University on Nursing programmes have studied in Welsh and are ready to practice bilingually.
Until her recent retirement, she was Director of the LLAIS Research Centre working on the Welsh language in health and care services. She has been a member of many government working groups and taskforces including the Government's Ministerial Group on the Welsh Language in Health and Care Services. She was a member of the Coleg Cymraeg's Academic Board since its establishment and Chair of the Coleg's Health Panel.
