Experimental Exhibition Provides Platform for Art and Design Students

3 November 2016
Students from the University of Wales Trinity St David and Cardiff Metropolitan University will share the fruits of their labour in an exhibition at the Cardiff School of Art and Design next week.

‘Golwg ar Gelf’ provides an unique platform for those studying some of their degree courses through the medium of Welsh. The students will be able to experience the excitement of exhibiting their work to peers and the general public. This is an important step on their journey in the arts. The exhibition is funded and supported by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol in collaboration with lecturers from the two institutions above.

The exhibition will include several different types of work and is an opportunity for the students to experiment with different art forms. Their work will be unveiled at a launch this Friday evening (4 November) at the Cardiff School of Art and Design on the Llandaff Campus, Cardiff Metropolitan University and will be open to the public until Friday 11 November – during the School’s opening hours.

A workshop for school pupils and further education college students will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 9 November in conjunction with the exhibition. This workshop will inspire and encourage the young people to be creative, and to appreciate the medium of language in doing so.

Huw Williams is a lecturer at the Cardiff School of Art and Design and is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. He says: “This collaborative project enrichens the students’ experience and is a highly visual way of encouraging others to study Art and Design at university.  The arts offer incredibly varied and exciting opportunities in Wales and beyond. The aim is to show that the ability to create and work through the medium of Welsh is of great advantage to gradudates”
