A project that will lead to the publication of an authoritative reference book on Welsh Music (Cydymaith i Gerddoriaeth Cymru) was launched on Bangor University’s stall during the recent National Eisteddfod. It’s envisaged that the volume will include references to all types of Welsh music.

As part of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s Mathematics and Physics Development Plan, Aberystwyth University has appointed Dr Huw Morgan as a Welsh medium Physics lecturer, whilst Dr Mathew Pugh has been appointed as a Welsh medium Mathematics lecturer at Cardiff University.

Lecturers recently appointed through the Coleg’s Academic Staffing Scheme have met for the first time at the Llwyfan in Carmarthen, to discuss and share ideas for the forthcoming academic year. 25 appointments have been made in universities across Wales.

On the first day of Cardiff University’s freshers' fair over 100 new students joined the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. During this week the Coleg will be on hand at freshers’ fairs across Wales welcoming new students as they arrive at university for the first time.

A strong representation of teachers from schools across Wales gathered at Aberystwyth University on Friday 1 July for a teachers’ seminar. The aim of the seminar was to bridge the teaching of mathematics and physics between secondary schools and the higher education sector whilst focusing on the Welsh medium element.

One of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s Research Scholarship holders has recently visited Harvard University in the United States. Owain Wyn Jones, who is based at Bangor University, received an invitation to present a paper during the university’s annual Celtic Colloquium.

A special conference was held this weekend in the Atrium, at Glamorgan University’s Creative Industries campus, in order to bring together university students to enhance their knowledge of the world of Drama and enrich their studying experience.

Two new members have been appointed to the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s Board of Directors, Professor Iwan Davies and Ieuan Wyn were elected during the Coleg's Annual Meeting held on 28 February.

Students from three institutions came together in Swansea over the weekend to enhance their field studies skills as part of the “Methodoleg Maes” module (Field Methodology). The module is offered to students studying Geography and environmental subjects at Swansea, Aberystwyth and Bangor universities.

Two Science students won the main literary competitions in this year’s Inter-Collegiate Eisteddfod which was held in Bangor. Gruffudd Antur, a Physics student was the winner of the Chair and Psychology student Elliw Haf Pritchard won the Crown. Both are students at Aberystwyth University.

One of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s research scholarships holders has won a highly acclaimed research grant worth €5,000 from the European Hydration Institute (EHI). Julian Owen, a Coleg-funded PhD student at Bangor University, is currently researching the subject of Human Physiology (Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences).

Welsh education has lost one of its major benefactors following the death of Gwilym Humphreys, the first headteacher of Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen, former Director of Education in Gwynedd, and chair of the University of Wales's Welsh-medium Teaching Board between 1996 and 2003.

Honorary Fellow and alumnus Cefin Roberts and TV personality and graduate Rhydian Bowen Phillips joined the celebrations to launch the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s branch of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, on 25 April 2012.
