The College’s Research Scholarships Scheme provides substantial financial sponsorship to prospective academics who are studying for a doctorate. Over and above this, the holders of these scholarships also receive training in research skills and gain teaching experience by contributing to undergraduate modules through the medium of Welsh.
This scheme was funded for the first time in 2005-06, with the long term aim of creating a new generation of Welsh-medium lecturers in a wide range of academic fields. Dr Hywel Griffiths from the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth University was the first award-holder to be appointed to a full-time lecturing post following the Scheme, in October 2009.
A new Research Scholarships Scheme was launched on 1 March 2013. Award-holders will receive funding for three years which is equivalent to Research Council UK’s (RCUK) post-graduate scholarships. Up to ten Research Scholarships are awarded each year.
Full details of how to apply for one of the Coleg's Research Scholarships can be found on the funding pages.
