What is Y Porth?

The collaborative e-learning platform ‘Y Porth’ was established in 2009 to encourage universities to share Welsh medium resources and facilitate the process of teaching modules on a collaborative basis.

The website now contains an extensive pool of first class electronic materials (including terminology and a number of complete modules) relating to a wide range of academic fields, and by incorporating the latest e-learning technologies – that enrich the user experience and enable higher education institutions to work together to teach collaborative modules in an effective manner – Y Porth has become a vital focus for studying and teaching university courses through the medium of Welsh.

The arrival of Y Porth has indeed been a vital step towards realising Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s vision of creating a Welsh language academic community, and this is further reflected by the fact that the website also contains a register of all Welsh medium lecturers currently employed by Welsh universities.
