Does the Book of Revelation help or hinder us as we think about modern ecological issues? That is the central question of this research. Despite a number of efforts by scholars to present the text as a positive message about the environment, a reading of protest is made against the text’s horrific visions. In the Book of Revelation, Earth suffers ecological disasters at an epic scale, on God’s orders. It is therefore argued that the most appropriate interpretive approach for reading the Book of Revelation from an environmental perspective is the approach that ‘resists’ the author’s visions.
