The research will look at the usefulness of machine translation from English to Welsh in terms of a translator’s efforts and the number of translations he/she can complete. The hypothesis is that using automatic translation with some specific texts will require less effort in translation, and that the process will therefore be quicker.
This should lead to a financial benefit since a translator will be able to increase the number of translations produced, and consequently, undertake more work. This should contribute towards a wider provision of public services through the medium of Welsh, in line with the objectives of the Welsh Language Measure (Wales) 2011.
