The research follows the speech development of six children living in Gwynedd, from 12 months to 24 months old. Currently, no data is available that demonstrates the speech development of children in Welsh as they begin to say their first words. This means that speech and language therapists tend towards an overdependence on information based on phonological development in English. The research’s results will include a detailed analysis of the children’s pronunciations, and will contribute towards our understanding of early speech in children living in Wales.
