University course: Modern Languages

Why choose to study the degree subject: I have been studying languages for years and hope to work abroad in future.

Why choose to study in Welsh: Studying through the medium of Welsh gives you so many opportunities within the course, and you also reach a higher standard.

What's the best thing about studying a course in Welsh: Studying the course through the medium of Welsh is a big advantage for me. Those of us studying modern languages through the medium of Welsh are in small groups, so we have more opportunities to ask for support and to get clearer explanations.

Any advice for prospective students who are concerned about studying in Welsh: Before starting my studies at Swansea University, I wasn't interested in studying through the medium of Welsh and I wasn't aware of the advantages and the opportunities available. I don't feel studying through the medium of Welsh complicates things at all. In fact it can help you develop your skills to a greater extent, and of course it will also improve your Welsh!

Why apply to be an ambassador: I feel I have the skills and motivation to encourage students to study through the medium of Welsh and to emphasise the advantages of doing so. I'm looking forward to meeting other students and taking part in interesting events and experiences throughout the year.

What do you enjoy most about being in university in Wales: The experience of being at university is different and exciting. The change from a Welsh language school or college to an English language university can be quite daunting, but you have a feeling of solidarity with the other Welsh language students and that helps a lot.

Hobbies: Going to the gym, listening to music, going to gigs, going to the cinema and shopping

Likes: takeaway evening with university friends, Christmas time, a cup of tea after a hard day at lectures!

Dislikes: scary/horror films, exams and "Rainbow Drop" sweets

Favourite Welsh language programme/film: I really enjoyed studying Tylluan Wen in school, something completely different to anything I had seen before. I have a lot of good memories of studying this with my friends.

Any other interesting facts about you: I can speak four languages, and I'm trying to learn Italian too. I survived Hurricane Sandy in New York in 2012!
