University course: Human Geography and International Politics

Why did you choose to study the degree subject?

Geography was my favourite subject all through school, but I'm also very interested in politics. So, when I realised that there was a course that allowed me to study both, it was perfect.

Why did you choose to study through the medium Welsh?

As Welsh is my first language and I studied through the medium of Welsh in school, it was the next natural step for me as I feel more comfortable studying through the medium of Welsh.

What's the best thing about studying a course partly through the medium of Welsh?

The Welsh groups are smaller and so you receive more support from the lecturers. Studying through the medium of Welsh is also beneficial as it enables you to improve your Welsh language skills.

Any advice for prospective students who are worried about studying through the medium of Welsh?

I wouldn't worry at all about studying through the medium of Welsh. I'm very happy that I have chosen to study through the medium of Welsh as it comes naturally to me and the numerous opportunities to practice the language help too. The support that's available to Welsh-speaking students is second to none.

Would you encourage others to apply for a Coleg Cymraeg scholarship and why?

Of course! The scholarship is a big help during your time at university.

Why did you apply to be an ambassador and what are you most looking forward to?

It's an opportunity to meet new people and to socialise through the medium of Welsh. It's also a way of adding a new skill to my CV and gaining new experiences. Most importantly, it's an opportunity to share my very positive experiences of being a member of the Coleg Cymraeg!

What do you enjoy most about being at university?

It was important to me to be able to go to university in Wales, as it enables me to speak Welsh every day, but it also means that I get to meet people from all parts of the country and beyond!
