Why did you choose to study the degree subject?

I went on work experience during year 12 with a solicitor and I knew afterwards that law was of great interest to me and something that I definitely wanted to do as a job in the future. Also, I have been interested in legal documentary programmes for years e.g. Trevor McDonald, ‘Inside Death Row.’

Why did you choose to study through the medium of Welsh?

Welsh is the language that comes naturally to me. I speak Welsh at home and with most of my friends and so it would be foolish of me to refuse the offer to study in my mother tongue. I am aware that more Welsh speakers are needed in the legal profession and therefore I am confident that being fluent and being able to work through the medium of Welsh will be advantageous to me when searching for a job in the future.

What is the best thing about studying a course partly through the medium of Welsh?

I have benefited hugely from Welsh language seminars; the groups are smaller, more personal, and I feel more confident expressing my opinion and offering ideas. It's also an opportunity to meet new people who share the same interests and who are studying the same course. It's an opportunity to expand your circle of friends and you can socialise through the events that are arranged by the Department as well as the Welsh Society.

Any advice for prospective students who are worried about studying through the medium of Welsh?

There is definitely no need to worry! Studying through the medium of Welsh is hugely advantageous, the tutors get to know you personally and are ready to offer a helping hand at any time.

Would you encourage others to apply for a Coleg Cymraeg scholarship and why?

One disadvantage of university life is the lack of money, so the financial help is invaluable! I was fortunate to receive the incentive scholarship which was a huge help.

Why did you apply to be an ambassador and what are you most looking forward to?

I am looking forward to being an ambassador in order to gain new experiences and I am hopeful that I will build and develop further skills, e.g. public speaking. One of the reasons for applying was the opportunity to meet new people as well as working with like-minded students from other universities in Wales. It's also an opportunity to give something back to the Coleg Cymraeg as a sign of my appreciation for all the support.

What do you enjoy most about being at university?

One of the things that stands out for me is the homely feeling at University, especially within the Welsh Society.

Leisure interests?

Spending time with family and friends, shopping, Welsh language gigs and music, and travelling.

Favourite things?

Game of Thrones, Mum's Sunday lunch, Caio (my dog) and supporting Wales in football and rugby.

Least favourite things?

Being late and having to take the dog for a walk in the rain!

Favourite Welsh language programme / film?

Y Gwyll and Rownd a Rownd.

Any other interesting information about you?

I love travelling and I have a long list of places I would like to visit. I have been fortunate to be able to visit Patagonia with the Urdd, and travel to America four times since 2012.
