Why did you choose to study the degree subject?

I decided to study nursing because I have been interested in the field since I was very young. When I was in the sixth form I had the opportunity to go on work experience with a practice nurse at a surgery. I knew after a week full of great experiences that it was the career for me.

Why did you choose to study through the medium of Welsh?

I received all my primary and secondary education through the medium of Welsh and when I heard that I could study my degree through the medium of Welsh this was of great comfort to me. Welsh is the language I am most confident speaking and writing and knowing that I could continue to write assignments and make oral presentations in my first language was a huge weight off my shoulders.

What's the best thing about studying a course partly through the medium of Welsh?

Having support in Welsh in seminars after the main lectures which allows me to ask questions about parts of the course in a language which I am comfortable speaking.

Any advice for prospective students who are worried about studying through the medium of Welsh?

Don't worry at all. There is great support available from the Coleg Cymraeg staff within the University.  It's a great opportunity not only at University but also when you apply for jobs in the future including the additional Welsh Language Skills Certificate to put on your CV. Showing that you have studied through the medium of Welsh will be very useful here in Wales. Go for it!

Would you encourage others to apply for a Coleg Cymraeg scholarship and why?

Yes! I am very fortunate to have received the main scholarship of £3000 from the Coleg Cymraeg which is extremely useful. It's an opportunity to study in your first language and there's financial support to help you!

Why did you apply to be an ambassador and what are you most looking forward to?

I applied to be an ambassador because I want to share my positive experiences with other students who are worried about studying through the medium of Welsh. I also want to inform students about the additional qualification that the Coleg Cymraeg offers which is the Welsh Language Skills Certificate and how useful the qualification will be when applying for jobs in the future.

What do you enjoy most about being at university?

Being able to meet new friends who have the same interests in a homely atmosphere. I hope to stay here in North Wales to work in the future so it's a great opportunity to find out what jobs are available to me here in the north.
