Rhonwen gained her undergraduate degree in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2005. She then returned home to Gwynedd to work as a therapist with bilingual patients.
Her clinical experience includes working in community clinics for children with a range of speech, language and communication difficulties, providing therapy programmes in schools and units in order to ensure access to the curriculum, and providing training for teachers and classroom assistants on supporting these difficulties in the classroom.
In 2010 she won a research scholarship that had been awarded to UWIC, and she began investigating early speech development in Welsh-English bilingual children.
Her teaching experience includes providing workshops on analysing clinical data in Welsh, lectures on bilingualism and clinical tutorials that provide an opportunity for students to discuss what they see on their clinical placements.
