Heledd studied a degree course in Biochemistry and Genetics for three years at Aberystwyth University before studying towards a PhD at Bangor University with the support of a Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Research Scholarship, focusing on revealing the functions of specialist structures formed during meiosis in African yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe). During this period she worked at the North West Cancer Research Institute.
As well as her academic career, she has had a number of opportunities to be part of other projects. She was a presenter and science assistant on S4C’s science programme for children, Atom for three years and has also had the opportunity to contribute to the BBC Bitesize website for the Biology revision modules.
