In 2004 Sara completed her training as a careers counsellor and gained a postgraduate diploma in counselling guidelines and careers. She was encouraged to study towards the qualification following her background in community and youth work with Urdd Gobaith Cymru.

Since qualifying she has worked with adults and young people within education in Cardiff and beyond as well as national employers, helping to establish apprenticeship schemes.

Following her appointment at Bristol University in 2009 she worked with the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Veterinary Sciences as well as leading on the University’s employability strategy. In teaching and assessing professional skills modules she worked closely with international employers to ensure that students received suitable opportunities.

She also has a BA (Hons) in French and Linguistics from Leeds University.
