Since completing her training in 1992, Gaynor has been a nurse in the neurology department at the University Hospital of Wales.
She has worked in a number of roles within the department, including the neural surgery ward, the intensive care unit, outpatients and more recently as a specialist nurse in multiple sclerosis.
She holds a teaching certificate together with qualifications in specialist skills in patient assessment. She completed a Master’s degree in Nursing in 2002 and worked as an associate lecturer at Cardiff University between 2008 and 2010. She has developed local services for patients with multiple sclerosis in south Wales as well as establishing an emergency admissions clinic and GP led clinics in the area.
