After graduating and working for a period as a procurement officer with SONY Manufacturing UK, Dafydd joined Dyfed Powys Police working in support roles. He began his career as a statistician before joining CID as an analyst and being promoted in 2007 to chief analyst for Dyfed Powys Police. He specialises in intelligence and has assisted with a number of investigations including murders and conspiracy to supply drugs. As chief analyst and team manager he was responsible for the intelligence department’s policies and procedures and in 2012, the department was nominated to the Virgin Media/Guardian Innovation Nation Award shortlist for creating a new computer system for Dyfed Powys Police intelligence.

His specialist field is policing and criminology. He has extensive experience of working in intelligence and has worked on a number of investigations over the past decade. As chief analyst for Dyfed Powys Police he led a team of analysts providing ancillary support to senior police officers. He is experienced and familiar with police policy and operational systems together with those of justice organisations. His interests are police and crime studies in general including matters related to the process of devolving police powers to Wales.
