The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol holds monthly training activities for both new and experiences lecturers, who teach through the medium of Welsh. The training is open to everybody from any higher education institution, and is a means for people to share experiences as they nurture good academic practice and develop their teaching skills.
The training is developed by working closely with experienced specialists from universities across Wales. Each training workshop is geared specifically to promoting the continuing professional development of academics who are able to work through the medium of Welsh. Staff are welcome to attend any workshop that is of interest to them – it is not necessary to follow any specific qualification scheme in order to be able to attend these workshops and they may attend as part of the continuing professional development.
However, the programme has also been designed to work within the structured framework of various institutions’ teaching qualification programmes. Consequently, the Coleg’s Academic Staff Development Programme feeds into the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE, PGCertHE and tHE), enabling individuals to become formally qualified as university educators.
The Coleg also runs a Research Skills Programme for postgraduate students. In addition, it holds an annual research conference which is aimed at encouraging the next generation of academics to come together and present research papers - through the medium of Welsh - to their peers. Both new and experienced staff are welcome to attend the conference to support the younger generation.
