Gwobr Goffa yr Athro Gwyn Thomas was awarded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol for the first time in 2017.
Professor Gwyn Thomas was a native from Tanygrisiau and educated at Ffestiniog County School, University of Wales, Bangor, and Jesus College, Oxford. He spent a long time as a lecturer at Bangor University and was also an Honorary Professor at the University. He published nearly twenty volumes of poetry as well as a host of articles and scholarly works, including The Bardic tradition, known to generations of students. Gwyn Thomas was a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, and was responsible for stimulating debate within that body about the need for a Welsh Medium College.
Professor Gwyn Thomas was honored as an Honorary Fellow of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol in 2015.
