Gwobr Norah Isaac is awarded annually by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
The Coleg established this award in 2014 in memory of Norah Isaac. The prize is awarded to the student who has the best result in the Coleg’s Welsh Language Skills Certificate assessment.
Norah Isaac was from Caerau, Maesteg. After training as a teacher, she worked for Urdd Gobaith Cymru until she was appointed head teacher of Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth in 1939, the first Welsh-medium school in Wales. Between 1950 and 1958, she lectured in her old college in Barry, before being appointed a leading lecturer in Drama at Trinity College, Carmarthen, where she stayed until her retirement in 1975. She has been a major influence on the education sector and on the subject ‘Drama’, and was honored a Fellow of the National Eisteddfod.
